The Amish quilt exhibit at the de Young was fantastic. It quite deftly made the point that Amish quiltmakers were creating abstract masterpieces of color and shape long before Rothko and the like. I had never looked at quilts that way but the point HIT me.
Fastforward to this weekend. The Kandinsky poster that had been above our bead for years has tired me. I wanted something friendly, original, and abstract up there… and I can’t paint, but I can quilt. This is by no means an Amish masterpiece… but I like it there… for now.
